7:35 PM EST. OT included. We don’t like this spot at all for the Panthers. After wins against East rivals New Jersey and the New York Rangers, the Panthers will face a West team here that they rarely see before a game against another East rival (Carolina) tomorrow night. Furthermore, this game comes one game after the Panthers found out that one of its best players, Evgenii Dadonov would be out for an extended period of time. The Panthers dug down deep, as teams’ often do in the first game after a significant injury, to barely hold on against the Rangers. In fact, Florida had a 4-1 lead in that game and needed a late goal to win it after the Rags tied it. In the second and third period, the Panthers were under siege. Florida ranks 20th overall in CF% and they also rank 20th in Corsi Against. As the chalk, there are much better options than this host in an unfavorable spot.

If the playoffs started today, San Jose would get the final Wild Card spot and be the 8th seed in the West. The Sharks have not been dominating on the scoresheet like we’re accustomed to seeing and as a result of that, they’re being undervalued in a big way. San Jose has deserved better in many games but has not gotten the bounces. They are a top-3 possession team and a top-8 team in many advanced metrics both offensively and defensively. Another reason the Sharks are a dog here is because Martin Jones (and to a lesser extent Joonas Donskoi) are both out but backup Aaron Dell comes in with a nifty .924 save percentage and again, the Sharkies are very good at limiting scoring chances. We also like that the Sharks started off this four-game East Coast swing with a 3-1 win in Philadelphia with Dell starting that game too. The Sharks have slayed this trip in the past many times before with this lineup after winning the first game of said trip and they are the better team in a better spot here.
