First, there is Kansas who the betting market was fading vehemently as a 7½-point favorite against #13 seed Samford and the market was rewarded when the Jayhawks survived the Bulldogs when a phantom foul ultimately decided the outcome of the contest though the Jayhawks were leading by as much as 22 at one point in the match. This business is a result-oriented one and though Kansas looked well in command of the contest and perhaps took their foot off the gas too early, the market is focused much more on results. Kansas nearly lost and did not cover.

Meanwhile, In the first round of action, Gonazaga was on “upset alert” as a #5 seed against up-start #12 seed McNeese State who won 30 games and was picked by so many to upset the Zags. Unlike Samford, who was a popular underdog and passed its exam with flying colors, the Cowboys of McNeese State failed miserably. The Zags rolled the ‘Boys by a score of 86-65 as a seven-point choice and the game was settled at half-time when Gonzaga held a 23-point lead. From there, the cover never appeared to be in jeopardy. McNeese State absolutely stunk it up from three-point range by hitting 23% of their attempts while Gonzaga conversely landed 48% of their threes. No matter what two teams play on any given night, if one team shoots the former stat-line against another team with the latter stat-line, said team will lose convincingly like McNeese Incidentally, Samford shot 43% from the three-point land while Kansas hit only 33% of their three-point attempts, which is even more proof how well the Jayhawks had to play to win. If the circumstances were reversed we would have an entirely different reaction from the market who play results and not ingredients. Kansas outright.
