Radford +11 over High Point

Streaming: ESPN+

12:00 PM EST. This game has been on our radar all week, as we’ve been looking to target Big South Conference regular-season champions and the newly minted hosts of this conference tournament, the Panthers of High Point. Formally, the Big South tourney was held in Charlotte, NC, at the Bojangles Coliseum, which has been rich in college basketball history since its opening in 1955. However, that tradition was cast aside this year in favor of the brand-spanking-new Qubein Arena, which is a full-service hotel, arena, and conference center at High Point. With the multi-million dollar investment, the Panthers were awarded the Big South Tournament, and they just so happened to have had a dream season in which they totally eclipsed their modest preseason prognostications.

The Panthers were pegged to finish in the bottom half of the nine-team Big South, as they were slotted in the seventh spot in the conference after a 14-17 mark last season. However, the Panthers instead finished 13-3 in the conference, a full game ahead of preseason favorite UNC Asheville. High Point would go 24-7 overall, but it also played a weak non-conference schedule that ranked just 303-of-362 graded Division I programs. Of their 24 wins, many of them came versus weak competition including St. Andrews (non-Div I), Mount Olive (non-Div I), Morgan State (330), North Florida (237), North Carolina A&T (344), Canisius (274), Bellarmine (313), and Presbyterian (271).

As for the Highlanders of Radford, they underachieved this season, as they were pegged for a top-three finish in the Big South. Instead, the Highlanders were a brutal 5-11 in the conference and just 16-16 overall, which was good for last place and the #9 seed. Radford went on to win their opening-round play-in game over South Carolina Upstate and to be honest, we were looking to back either of those teams in this spot today. That the Highlanders are better than their record and seeding happens to show is just the cherry on top of this potentially profitable sundae. We’ll gladly scoop up the inflated points here, but we would not be shocked if Radford sent the hosts and the #1 seed in this Big South Tournament home on day one. There is so much pressure on High Point to perform here, while the Highlanders are playing with house money and a game already under their belts. Overlay.
