Pittsburgh +163 over Philadelphia

1:35 PM EST. Forget Zack Wheeler (RHP - PHI), who has been good thus far, as we are here to fade a Phillies side that has had trouble hitting the ball and is coming off a walk-off win after Nick Castellanos drove in the winning run in a 4-3 win yesterday. With the runs hard to come by thus far, you would have thought the Phillies had won the NL East after what Castellanos called a “beautiful moment.” Hey, we like to wax poetic about the beautiful game of baseball as much as anyone, but Nicky, dude, it’s mid-April, maybe let’s tone down the Ken Burns sentiments and save them for the fall. Despite the walk-off win, the Phillies are still hitting just .206 versus right-handed pitching, which is the fourth worst mark in all of MLB, while posting an On Base Percentage (OBP) of .280 (also fourth worst) and a Slugging% of .341, which ranks 25th in the majors.

This game is much closer to a 50/50 proposition than this line would have you believe, as Mitch Keller’s (RHP - PIT) bloated surface ERA of 5.29 is the result of a slow start by Keller in which he gave up four runs in each of his first two starts while striking out 8 across those first two turns in which he pitched 11 innings. Things began to look up for Keller last time out in his third start of the season in which he pitched six solid innings against the Tigers, where he struck out nine and picked up the win. Perhaps most promising, Keller generated an impressive 13 whiffs, including nine with his sinker. There is tremendous value today in Keller, who is taking back an infrared price, and we’re not passing it up.
