4:10 PM EST. Javier Assad (RHP - CHC) will make his third start of the season, as he is looking to make a case for himself to stay in the rotation with both Jameson Taillon and Justin Steele still out injured. Assad has made the potential decision to send him back to the bullpen a much more difficult one, as he’s racked up 12 punchouts in 11 innings pitched, including a seven K effort versus the Padres last Monday in San Diego. While it's early,  Assad sports a 28% strikeout rate on the season, and he's making his case to stay in the Cubbies rotation.

Perhaps Luis Castillo (RHP - SEA) is just off to a slow start here in 2024, as he’s struggled mightily, giving up four earned runs in each of his first three starts which span 15.2 innings. Normally, it might be easy to write that lack of success off for one reason or another, but there are some red flags in Castillo’s profile, namely the drop in his fastball velocity which is down to 95.4 MPH from the 97 MPH it has sat at for most of his career. That might not look like much on paper, but in practice, it's a big deal and a situation that is worth monitoring the rest of the way, especially considering Castillo’s flameout last September. If dude has or is losing it, there are going to be potential profits to be made in fading him until there is a market correction on his pricing.
