Jordan Hicks to record the Win +155

3:45 PM. The Nationals have taken the first two games of this series in San Francisco, first getting to the newly signed Blake Snell on Monday night, and then young Kyle Harrison last night with an all-hands-on-deck effort that included five different bullpen arms to keep the Giants' bats at bay for another night. It’s not as if the Giants aren’t getting on base; they are, but they plated just one run on six hits on Monday night, and last night they could only muster three runs on 10 hits.

San Francisco will go with Jordan Hicks (RHP - SF), who appears to be putting it all together, as he has low-key been the MVP of the Giants' rotation in the early going. Hicks doesn't have the accolades of a Snell or Logan Webb, or the hype of Harrison or Keaton Wynn, but at 27, he’s looked the part after spending last season in the Cardinals' and Blue Jays' bullpens. The Cards briefly gave Hicks a chance to start in 2023, but they didn’t stick with it and bailed after just 26.1 innings. Here in 2024, Hicks has pitched 12 innings across two starts and he’s allowed just one run while striking out 11 and walking just one. Hicks added a new sinker to his arsenal in the offseason, and he’s fooling hitters with it left and right, as they are swinging at 40% of his sinkers that are out of the strike zone. While Hicks’ sample size as a starter is small, he’s managed to go more than five innings in both of his starts this season, and if he’s dealing again today, there is no reason to think the Giants won’t stick with him for as long as possible.

Meanwhile, Patrick Corbin (LHP - WAS) could be just what the doctor ordered for a lineup that is struggling to send its baserunners home. Corbin has had a rough start to his season, as he gave up four runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings against the Phillies last Friday. Corbin sports a bloated 6.97 ERA, but his xERA is just about as bad at 5.36. Further, Corbin cannot keep batters off the base path, as he also brings an inflated 1.96 WHIP into this game. For the record, Corbin is -380 to NOT pick up the win this afternoon.
