Corbin Burnes to Record the Win +130 over Boston

The Red Sox are off to a somewhat surprising 7-3 start, as they were predicted to achieve a modest 79½ wins this season, so mathematically speaking, they are already nearly 9% there and it’s not even the middle of April. Perhaps the BoSox will continue at their current .700 winning percentage pace, or perhaps they have benefited from playing two teams that are thought to be weaker than they are in the Angels and Athletics. Hey, wins are wins, but the Halos and A’s made the Red Sox pitching staff look like Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, and Hudson in their primes.

Boston will send out Brayan Bello (RHP - BOS) for his third start of the season after he did not factor into the decision in his last turn versus Oakland last Tuesday. In that outing, Bello allowed four runs on five hits in five innings, and while he struck out six, he struck out six against a team that is hitting just .212 on the season. In his first turn against stiffer competition in Seattle, Bello only managed two punchouts in five innings. As for his prospect of recording the win today, Bello is -390 in the “no” category, which suggests the oddsmakers do not like his chances of success in this contest.

Rather than spot -135 with Baltimore today, we prefer to back their “Ace,” Corbin Burnes, to pick up the win, as he is one of the best in the game, and rare is the night that he does not pitch at least five innings. Through his two starts this season, Corbin went 6.0 IP versus the Angels and then 5.2 versus the Royals; however, he did not factor in the decision versus Kansas City last Wednesday. Burnes was on the cusp of another quality start but got the hook just prior, having thrown 100 pitches, with 67 going for strikes. Through his first 11.2 innings, Corbin has 14 strikeouts and has yet to walk a batter. Corbin appears to be in mid-season form in his new digs in Baltimore. If the Orioles pick up the victory today, the probability of Burnes winning is in our favor, which is why this wager has so much value.
