Boston +104 over L.A. Angels

9:38 PM EST. Reid Detmers was impressive his first time out against a potent Orioles' lineup (5 IP, 1 ER, 7 K, 1.00 WHIP), and he'll look to replicate that performance against the Red Sox. Boston hasn't fared well against LHP in the early going, featuring a .311 wOBA that ranks in the bottom half of MLB but frankly, it’s a bit early still to put much emphasis on batting splits. What we know for sure is that Boston is winning baseball games while the Halos have surrendered 13, 11, and 8 runs in their three losses and three of their four wins came against the winless Marlins (0-8).

Garrett Whitlock (RHP - BOS) went 5-5 with a 5.15 ERA in 72 frames for Boston last year. He began 2023 as a starter and was moved to the bullpen following an August return from his second IL stint (elbow). Whitlock once again displayed skills to succeed, which included an elite BB%, ability to miss bats, and a slight groundball lean. What he has not displayed is evidence that he can handle a starter's workload but that’s of no concern today. An intriguing arm regardless of role and if his first start of the year is an indication of what’s to come, he’s a very underrated commodity. Whitlock allowed one run on three hits over five innings Sunday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Mariners. He takes a step down in class here so give Boston every edge, including the one on the mound.
