MLB Player Prop

Nick Pivetta +120 to Record the Win

3:37 PM EST. We want to attack Oakland’s Ross Stripling (RHP - OAK) but the Red Sox are -170 on the money line (that’s out of the question) and -1½ +105 on the run line. However, in the Player Props section at Bet365 and other joints, we can find “Pitcher to Record the Win” props, where Boston’s Nick Piovetta is +120 on the “Yes” while Oakland’s Ross Stripling is -550 on the “No” or +4-1 on the “Yes”. Go to Main Props; Player Props; Pitcher to Record the Win.

When making this wager, we want our pitcher to have a track record of pitching five innings or more on a consistent basis and Pivetta checks that box. Despite taking the 1-0 loss against the Mariners in his season debut, Pivetta allowed one run on three hits and zero walks while striking out 10 over six innings. At the end of last year, Pivetta finished with a pitch mix tweak and 5 tantalizing starts (2.37 ERA, 15.7% swing and miss rate, 4.3% BB%). You would be hard pressed to find a starter with better numbers than Pivetta over any six game stretch during the past year. Pivetta’s chances of picking up a win today are outstanding.

We knew that Ross Stripling’s 2022's ratios were out over his skis, but his level of regression last year was pure whiplash. He held his ground-ball rate and he still doesn’t walk many but so what, those skills were overshadowed by an avalanche of line-drives and HR’s. Two IL stints for a back strain also remind us that health isn't a skill he owns, either. Absolutely not a lot here in either skills or volume. Stripling’s chances of losing here are outstanding. Stripling finished 0-5 with a 5.35 ERA in 22 outings and 11 starts for the Giants last year and they were thrilled to get rid of him. He’s in Oakland because the A’s need cheap bodies.
