Texas +141 over Tampa Bay

6:50 PM EST. Zach Eflin (RHP - TAM) will take his second turn of the season after he was knocked around by the Blue Jays on opening day, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings pitched. While it was just one start, Eflin is the type of pitcher that we are going to look to fade when spotting an inflated price, which looks to be the case again today against the defending World Series champions.

The big story for the Rangers coming out of last night’s win over Tampa Bay is the loss of third baseman Josh Jung, who broke his wrist after being hit by the ball on a swing attempt in the ninth inning. Jung was an All-Star last season, and he had high expectations again this year; his loss is not insignificant, but the Rangers have a deep bench and their offense is capable of making up for Jung until he is able to return. In the moment, Jung's loss lowers Texas’ market appeal, which allows us to potentially profit.

The Rangers will send out lefty Andrew Heaney (LHP - TEX) for his first turn of the season after he posted 151 strikeouts in 147.1 innings last season. Heaney had some tough luck in 2023, as he had a Batting Average of Balls in Play (BABIP) of .302, despite holding hitters to a .250 average on the year. During the spring, Heaney posted 12 Ks across 10 innings pitched, and there is great value in him and the Rangers today as an underdog.
