Pittsburgh +124 over Miami

1:40 PM EST. The Pirates are 3-0 while Miami is 0-3 and that alone makes the Pirates worthy of consideration. On the heels of starting the season 0-4, that elusive first win becomes even more difficult today.

We’re not paying much attention to the pitching matchup today, as it’s not really in Pittsaburg’s favor. This wager is all about wagering on Pittsburgh to make Miami’s start to the year more miserable than it already is.

Bailey Falter (RHP - PIT) went 2-9 with a 5.36 ERA in 81 innings for Philadelphia/Pittsburgh last year. When a down year ends on the IL for "neck soreness and overall fatigue," name jokes write themselves. Control can sometimes be a curse if you don't generate grounders or strikeouts. Falter’s strong 2022 finish was opponent-fueled fool's gold, it turns out and it’s possible he gets whacked so we’re just making you aware of that.

Trevor Rogers (LHP - MIA) suffered a bicep strain four starts into the season last year and never made it all the way back (two rehab starts), as that injury gave way to a torn lat. An injury washout on the heels of his poor 2022 now makes 2021 but a distant memory. In his final spring game, Rogers gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against the Phillies. We suppose he’s priced to buy but we’re not buying at this time. Dude is favored and so are the Marlins, which makes us sellers.
