Philadelphia Flyers +102 over Detroit

7:30 PM ET. OT included. The Red Wings have been living dangerously for weeks, consistently playing one-goal games that could go either way. Despite their recent 4-2 win over Toronto, the Wings remain stuck in a pattern of inconsistency, which makes spotting them as favorites here a tough sell. Detroit’s recent stretch has been marred by mediocrity. A 5-5-3 record over their last 13 games tells the story of a team struggling to close out tight contests.

The Dead Things victory against Toronto on Saturday may look like a confidence booster, but digging deeper reveals it was essentially another one-goal game until Lucas Raymond’s empty-netter sealed it. Coach Derek Lalonde admitted as much, lamenting the Wings’ inability to consistently capitalize on their process and translate it into wins.

On the other side, the Flyers have plenty to offer as a live dog. They beat Detroit 4-1 just last week, thanks to a four-goal performance from Scott Laughton, and now come into this rematch with a psychological edge. While Philadelphia has dropped four of their last six, their overall play has been more competitive than the results suggest. Goaltender Samuel Ersson has been improving since his return from injury, and even in losses, the Flyers have shown flashes of solid hockey.

Lastly, it’s worth noting that Detroit is starting a home-heavy stretch of games. While that might seem like an advantage, it also adds the expectation to perform, which hasn’t been their strong suit. With a track record of losing close games and an inability to consistently separate from their opponents, Detroit as a favorite is a bet we’d rather fade.
