N.Y. Rangers +116 over Nashville

8:00 PM ET. OT included.Nashville enters this game tied for the fewest points in the NHL, sporting an abysmal 1-6-3 run while dropping three straight at home. Yet here they are, being asked to play the role of the chalk against a Rangers team desperate to get off the mat.

Take a closer look at Nashville’s recent results. Yes, they clawed back to make it interesting in a 5-2 loss to Colorado, but the “third-period rally” only came after they fell into a predictable 3-0 hole. It’s a familiar story for this Predators team — slow starts, fleeting bursts of effort, and ultimately being exposed for what they are: a roster that can’t string together a full 60 minutes. Nashville has dropped eight of its last nine, scoring more than three goals just once in that span. Juuse Saros, their supposed rock in net, is mired in an 0-5-3 slide with a 3.40 GAA. His confidence is shot, and without Roman Josi (day-to-day), Nashville’s already thin defensive corps becomes a glaring liability.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are being dismissed as a team in freefall, with a paltry 3-9-1 record over their last 13. That’s the angle the market is pouncing on — the idea that New York’s current funk has made them unbackable. We’re not buying it. New York is still loaded with talent and remains one of the more dangerous underdogs in the NHL. Their core — Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, and Adam Fox — has faced adversity before, and despite the team’s struggles, the Rangers have been competitive in nearly every game. Their last three losses came by just one goal, including a gritty performance Sunday in St. Louis where they nearly erased a 3-0 deficit in the third period. Igor Shesterkin, while statistically underwhelming of late, remains one of the NHL’s most talented goaltenders and is capable of stealing games. Nashville lacks the offensive firepower to overwhelm Shesterkin, and unless Saros suddenly morphs back into Vezina form, New York will have ample opportunities to capitalize.
