We faded the Red Wings in their last game because they have been one of the luckiest teams in the league so far, and unfortunately for us, that luck continued in that game against the Devils, as Detroit scored five goals on just 20 shots. Over their last three games, all wins, the Red Wings have been outshot 109 to 55. That is the norm, by the way, as the Wings regularly get outplayed, and the goods under the hood show that, as they rank second worst in the league in puck possession and expected goals, while also ranking third worst in high-danger scoring chances.

By contrast, the Sabres are 3-4-1, but they have been playing some great hockey, which is starting to show in their results, as they’ve won two straight. Buffalo is a top 10 (8th) puck possession side that also ranks sixth in high-danger scoring chances and third in converting those opportunities into high-danger goals scored. With the Wings playing well above their heads and the Sabres still under the radar, we are going for the kill here and playing the Sabres on the puck line -1½ at a very nice price.
