Philadelphia +125 over Washington

That is an impressive record, but we can assure you that the Caps are not a 4-1 team. In fact, Washington is a very middle-of-the-road club (at best) when it comes to the underlying numbers, as they rank 16th out of 32 teams in puck possession. The Caps are just 29th in expected goals and 26th in high-danger scoring chances. Where Washington does crack the top ten under the hood is PDO, or “puck luck,” in which the Caps rank ninth. To summarize, the Caps got off to a hot start, but they have been lucky along the way and are not worthy of the respect they are getting in the market.

The Flyers, meanwhile, are 1-4-1, but they have also been one of the most “unlucky” teams in the NHL so far, with their PDO, or “puck luck,” ranking at 31st. The Flyers have also played a tough schedule so far that saw them begin the season with a brutal four-game road trip that took them through the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. The Flyers did beat the Canucks on opening night, but that would be their only victory. However, Philadelphia did outshoot the Flames 40-31 in a 6-3 loss, while also going shot-for-shot with the mighty Oilers in a 4-3 overtime defeat. The contrasting records here have the Caps overpriced and the Flyers underpriced, creating tremendous value here on the hometown Flyers.
