Florida over Edmonton

8:10 PM EST. OT included. Perhaps the best description we’ve heard for this Stanley Cup Final is that it went from the “worst” to the “best”! That, of course, would be from the perspective of an Oilers supporter in Canada, a country which, despite many of its native sons hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup every summer, is desperate for a Canadian team to win the Cup and bring it “home.”

That narrative—the 31-year drought since a Canadian team has won the Cup—has been pounded into the ground here in The Great White North. Thankfully, we are not swayed by such stories. Nor are we influenced by a media that is touting the Oilers and their quest to do the nearly impossible: overcome a 3-0 deficit in a seven-game series to tie it up 3-3 after three straight wins. We couldn’t care less about the Oilers or the Cup coming “home” to Canada. What we care about is value, pure and simple, and to that end, all the value lies here with the Panthers.

In Game 1, Florida was a -140 favorite, but after a Panthers win in a game they were outplayed in, the line for Game 2 dropped to just -111. For Game 5, with the Cats up 3-1 in the series, Florida was a significant -155 favorite at puck drop. After back-to-back losses, the Panthers are now, at the time of this writing, an underdog in Florida over the surging Oilers, and that is not right.

Look, we don’t like Sergei Bobrovsky, and anyone who has been reading this space for any period of time over the years knows this. However, it doesn’t matter what we like, think, or feel. We aren’t going to wax poetic about the Cup and where it belongs or how it would be nice for the best player in the world to have his name engraved on it. Again, we couldn't care less. We are purveyors of value, and there is much value to be had here on the home side.

It is impossible to profit or manage your money when you have not attached value to what you are about to invest in. Sorry, Canada, we must continue to play the value.
