We would not begrudge you for rolling your eyes at the sight of the Blue Jackets in this space and moving on, muttering obscenities along the way, but we are not going to walk away from this team, especially not in this spot. In case you needed a refresher, the Jackets are basement dwellers who have now lost seven games in a row and 11 of their last 12, but we are not going to focus on Columbus today, as we are pretty sure that message will fall on deaf ears.

As for the Capitals, now this is a team we can rip into. Rarely are the Capitals favored, and when we look back on their last 10 games, they have been priced as an underdog in every one of those games except three, with the Sharks (-224), Blue Jackets (-142), and Wild (-123) being the lone exceptions. The Caps only play the Sharks and Wild twice a year, and so we’re going to focus on that most recent November 4th game against the Jackets in which Washington won 2-1. That game was in Washington, as is this one, and so we can clearly see just how much has changed in the market value on both sides. The Caps have won three straight, four of five, and seven of their last 10, and the last time the Jackets cashed a ticket was a week before Halloween.

The reality is, had a bounce or two gone their way, the Jackets could have picked up wins all along that way. Including the one-goal loss to the Caps, Columbus has dropped a total of five one-goal games during their seven-game slide, and we’d be inclined to count their 5-3 loss to the Pens in that list, too, as Sidney Crosby scored an empty-netter with 37 seconds to play, but we digress. This price is inflated, and the Jackets are doing enough right things to warrant another wager.
