Detroit +165 over Toronto

2:00 PM EST. OT Included. Note teh 2:00 PM start time. The Red Wings have really cooled off after a decent start, as they have dropped three of four and 7 of their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs have reeled off two straight with victories over Calgary and Vancouver with the latter occurring five days ago in a game the Leafs were soundly outplayed in. The Leafs managed a measly 22 shots on net in that 5-2 win on Saturday.

Prior to winning two straight, Toronto had dropped five of six. Sitting one game above .500 at 8-7 or 8-5-2 if you prefer, Toronto is still being priced like they’re an elite team but they are not. They have elite players and they can score but they sorely lack defense and goaltending, which is why they’re too big a risk at prices like this. Make no mistake that the Red Wings have snipers too and could easily score five or six goals here.

This game is part of the NHL Global Series, thus it is in Stockholm Sweden. Detroit already played a game here yesterday so they are perhaps a bit more acclimated than Toronto is. Aside from that, the intangibles in play here are plentiful (travel, vacation and fun among other things) also favors Detroit because they are the ones taking back a significant price. You can take the underdog in every game of this Global Series (cash grab) and likely come out on top because almost every game will be a 50/50 proposition. This one is no exception and frankly, the price to get behind Detroit is absurdly generous.
