Buffalo is the “B-side” in this wager, as we are here to try and take advantage of a unique scheduling situation, but we love that they were just shut out 4-0 by the Penguins, as a loss like that looks much worse than it really was. The Sabres went stride for stride with the Pens and were down just 2-0 heading to the third before Pittsburgh added a power play marker and then an empty netter with 1:49 to play. It was a night where the Pens had the hotter goalie, although there is no shame in the 36-save effort posted by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

The Sabres catch the Bruins here in a unique scheduling spot, as this is a sandwich spot for the B’s between games with hated rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. The Bruins played a hard-fought game with the Habs on Saturday night, which went to overtime and Montreal won 3-2. That was only the Bruins' third loss over their last 10 games, and there are few teams in the market trusted more than Boston at the moment. However, that trust is misguided and steeped in the success and record-setting the Bruins had in 2022-23 and their hot start here in 2023-24. That hot start has been smoke and mirrors because if not for the Bruins' otherworldly play in goal, they would not be sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Before the B’s play the Habs on Saturday night, they will have three days off to look forward to and likely need this trip to Western New York like they need a hole in their heads.

Over their last seven games, the B’s have only once dominated the puck possession numbers, and that was in a game against the Maple Leafs back on November 2. In the other six contests, the Bruins were chasing the puck against the Red Wings (twice), Panthers, Stars, and Islanders. Against Montreal on Saturday, the ice was a little more level, but the B's still gave up eight high-danger scoring chances to Montreal's six. When a team gives up as much as the Bruins do on a regular basis, the prices to pay to back them are not justified. That applies here.
