Anaheim +211 over Pittsburgh
7:07 PM EST. OT included. The Ducks have already proven to be a pesky pooch that plays up to their competition, so why not ride that wave tonight with a rare visit to Pittsburgh to play Sidney Crosby and the Penguins? The Ducks have won three straight games now, going back to their 3-2 win in Columbus in the first game of this road trip. That victory set the tone for the Ducks, but it came after some hard-fought efforts against some strong teams (Carolina, Dallas, and Boston) back in Orange County to start the season. The Ducks were not out of place in those games against the Hurricanes (win), Stars (loss), and Bruins (loss). Nor did they back down in Boston last Thursday night when they threw the kitchen sink at the B's again and were rewarded with a 4-3 OT win. Last time out, on Saturday afternoon, the Ducks blew out the Flyers 7-4 in a game in which it was 4-0 halfway through the second period.
As for the Penguins, you’ll read about how they are not "getting the bounces," which would not be a big deal if it were from a beat reporter or a columnist, but when it's the head coach, we have to question the motivation. The reality is, the Penguins have been pretty damn lucky, at least when it comes to their penalty kill, which is a luck-based statistic. Over their last four games, the Penguins have allowed just one power-play goal to their opposition, but a hot PK or hot PP comes and goes like water off a duck's back. For example, in the two games prior to that hot PK run, the Pens gave up four powerplay goals in six attempts, and before that, they killed seven penalties in two games. The point is that one cannot predict if a specialty teams unit will get the job done. What that means for the Penguins is that they are actually fortunate to be where they are because their PK has been so strong thus far, but when that dam breaks, and it will, the Pens are going to be in for a tough swim. Overlay.
