Seattle +139 over Florida

6:07 PM EST. OT included. The Kraken have struggled out of the gate in their third season after making the playoffs last year, starting the 2023-24 campaign 2-4-1. While the results have not been ideal, Seattle has played well enough to have more than a couple of wins. However, hockey is the most luck-driven sport on the planet, and often being the better team on the ice does not get rewarded.

The Kraken are in the middle of a four-game road trip that has seen them split a pair of overtime games with the Red Wings (a 5-4 win) and Carolina (a 3-2 loss). Prior to that, the Kraken split a pair of home games with the Hurricanes and Rangers, which is a significant improvement over their 0-3-1 start to the season. A closer look shows that Seattle has played the third-toughest schedule so far, with five games against playoff teams from a year ago, including the last two Stanley Cup champions.

That trend of facing playoff-level competition continues tonight in Sunrise, FL, as the Panthers will host the Kraken after knocking off lowly San Jose, 3-1, on Tuesday night. That was the Panthers' third win in four games, but it came four days ago, and so the Cats have been sitting idle. Perhaps that break will serve Florida well here, as they get healthy and welcome Sam Bennett back into the fold. He practiced with the team for the first time this season. As of this writing, while not official, it is expected that Bennett will be back in the lineup tonight, which will force the Cats to shake things up at the top of the depth chart.

Furthermore, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky took the night off against the Sharks, which means he has not played since Florida’s 5-3 loss to Vancouver last Saturday night. “Bob” is just 2-3-0 with a bloated 3.06 goals-against average and a weak .899 save percentage. Perhaps the rest is warranted, and “Bob” needed a break just two weeks into the season, but it’s far more likely that he and the Panthers are flat after so much time off.
