Ottawa +125 over Pittsburgh

7:07 PM EST. OT included. The Senators were tough-luck losers on Long Island on Thursday night, dropping a 3-2 decision in a game where they fired 47 shots on net to the Islanders' 38. That was the sixth straight game the Sens have outshot their opposition, and a closer look under the hood shows that Ottawa has been much the better side despite posting a 3-4 record that includes a three-game losing streak.

In a results-based business, it might look like the Sens are struggling to meet their lofty preseason expectations, but the reality is they are playing well, but they are not being rewarded with the proper outcome for that quality effort. Hey, that's hockey, but eventually, those many shots fired are going to result in more goals over time. We cannot predict when those pucks will find the back of the net, but we are not going to pull the shoot on the Senators now while their stock is on the downturn.

The Penguins have pedigree and a high market standing, but those qualities are only good for inflating their value, which suits us perfectly fine, as we are always looking to attack a team that is overvalued. The Pens just knocked off the Avalanche, 4-0, in Pittsburgh on Thursday night, but prior to that, Pittsburgh was outclassed by Dallas, lost a 4-1 decision to the Blues, and dropped a 6-3 final to the Red Wings. The Pens' wins this season have come over the Avs, Flames (in a game that Calgary totally dominated), and Washington, which might be the weakest team in the Eastern Conference. This game is far closer to a coin flip than these odds would have one believe, which is our cue to take back an inflated price on the Senators.
