Columbus +180 over Buffalo

7:37 PM EST. OT included. The Jackets are in their customary spoiler role right now and it’s a role they have thrived in before and will likely thrive in again this year. With no hope for anything, it’s all about making life miserable for the opposition while increasing their individual value moving forward. Columbus has picked up points in five of its last six games with wins over Winnipeg, Dallas and Edmonton over that stretch along with OT losses to Minnesota and Arizona. Columbus has not quit, nor are they tanking.

The streaky Sabres are in the midst of a peak right now after winning their third game in a row (7-4 over Washington) and their fifth win in their last six games. Buffalo’s only loss over that span occurred against the Maple Leafs. We’ve been acknowledging how dangerous the Sabres are all year but in no way would we trust them spotting a price like this because they still lack many qualities that turn very talented teams into juggernauts. The Sabres lack consistency, they lack a killer instinct, they still give up too many quality scoring chances and they lack consistent, quality goaltending. Case in point is three horrible runs this year that saw Buffalo lose seven straight from late October to mid-November, then losing six of seven in January and then losing four in a row recently from January 28 to February 13th while being outscored over that span by a combined 20-7.

After tonight, Buffalo has its work cut out for them, as they play in order, Boston, Tampa, Edmonton, N.Y. Islanders, Dallas, N.Y. Rangers and Toronto. You would be hard pressed to find a more difficult 7-game stretch and thus, for a team like the Sabres, who are in uncharted waters (fighting for the playoffs), it is very, very possible they overlook this intruder. Buffalo is a vulnerable spot here.
