Chicago +165 over San Jose

10:07 PM EST. OT Included. The Sharks do not have a lot of things to celebrate these days nor is there much interest in them. They had a tremendous run for more than a decade, even being on the verge of a championship many times over but that was years ago. Tonight, however, there will be a celebration, as the Sharkies are all set to retire Patrick Marleau’s jersey. Patrick Marleau is to the Sharks what Steve Yzerman was to the Red Wings or what Joe Sakic was to the Avalanche. He is a hero in that region.

This is one of our favorite angles, that being to fade a team that is retiring someone’s jersey because it requires a lot more than playing a home game for the players. There are distractions galore. It’s more of an event than it is a hockey game. Players are expected to show up early and stand around for at least an hour or two while the fans watch the festivities. Players have other obligations too. There is usually a dinner to honor the player the night before. Another prelude was Thursday's event, held at City Hall. Marleau, wife Christina, sons Landon, Brody, Jagger, and Caleb attended, as did parents Denis and Jeanette and the Sharks’ current roster. That’s what we know of. This is the first jersey ever that the Sharks will retire. It will hang alone in the rafters and frankly, for the players, it is a big hassle to accommodate the honoree and the obligations that go with it.

Meanwhile, there are no obligations for the visitor. For them, it’s a normal road game that requires nothing extra. They don’t have to show up early. They don’t have to stand around on the ice or the bench for a couple of hours nor do they have to participate in any of the festivities. Chicago figures to be the sharper squad here and besides all that, on its best day, San Jose can’t be priced like this against anyone
