Winnipeg -109 over Colorado

8:07 PM EST. OT included. The Avalanche need little introduction here, as they are the class of the West. The Avs are coming off three straight wins, including a 6-5 overtime decision at home against the Oilers last time out. The run of success looks great, but when you look at when that last game was played, it was five days ago. So, they’ve been sitting idle. Meanwhile, the Jets are in game shape after having been on the ice all week. Furthermore, this is a one-off for Colorado. Before playing Edmonton, Colorado had played five of its previous six on the road, then came home to play Edmonton, have been off for four full days before this very inconvenient one-game trip. Colorado comes right back home tomorrow to host Calgary. Having to travel to frigid Winnipeg for this one game (it's -17°C in Winnipeg today) makes this a truly horrible situational spot for Colorado.

Why not go back to the Jets here at home after we backed them for all three of their games in the Tri-State area? We’re not going to sugarcoat Winnipeg’s roadie through New Jersey, Manhattan, and Long Island, as the Jets didn’t play very well. The only game Winnipeg did win, they had no business doing so. That was the night Connor Hellebuyck made 50 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Rangers. Overall, the Jets went 1-2 over that trip, yet they are just a coin flip tonight against the defending Stanley Cup champs. That price is very telling.

This is the ultimate case of “sticking with it,” as it would be very easy to “zig-zag,” and back the Avalanche here after watching the Jets struggle for three games out East, but that would be the wrong move. The prudent play, and the price tells us this, is to stick with Winnipeg, who are always tough to play on their home ice.
