Detroit -½ +190 over Toronto

7:07 PM EST. Regulation only. Which Detroit team are we going to see tonight? The one that recently beat Pittsburgh and is coming off a 7-5 victory over Winnipeg while burying a bunch of pucks past the best goalie in the league or the one that recently lost to Ottawa, Buffalo and New Jersey while allowing five goals or more in all three? Frankly, we could write that same thing about almost every team in the league because hockey outcomes are heavily determined by puck luck and great or weak goaltending. How else do you explain the hugely fluctuating results from 75% of the teams in this league? It is with that in mind that we’re always looking for advantageous situations and this one fits the bill. No question that Detroit is dangerous and now they catch the Maple Leafs in a very difficult spot whether it's subconscious or not.

Toronto played last night and fought hard to get past the Preds by a final score of 2-1. Mitch Marner scored with under two minutes left in regulation. It was Toronto’s third win in a row, thus, there is no urgency for Toronto to bring everything they have here. It is worth noting that prior to those three aforementioned wins in a row, the Maple Leafs lost to St. Louis and Seattle and allowed five goals or more to both (geez, there’s some fluctuating results again). With AM34 out, Toronto will play the second game of back-to-backs here. They also just beat Detroit 4-1 last week and beat them earlier this year as well (4-2) so there are no scores to settle. The real kicker here is that Toronto will play in Boston on Saturday night on CBC”s Hockey Night in Canada. It is without question one of, if not, the biggest game of the year thus far for the Maple Leafs. Bottom line is that this is a really vulnerable spot for the Buds and we’re on it, in regulation of course.
