Buffalo -½ +135 over Seattle

7:07 PM EST. Regulation only. This is the perfect setup for the Sabres. Buffalo played last night and got everything they deserved in a 4-0 home loss to the Flyers. From start to finish, Philadelphia dominated the Sabres. Meanwhile, Seattle went into Montreal last night and knocked off the Habs by that same 4-0 score. The Kraken have now won five straight to improve their record to 23-12-4. Not only have the Kraken reeled off five in a row, but the last four have all been on the road, which included a 5-2 win in Edmonton, a resounding 5-1 in Toronto and another noticeable 8-4 win in Ottawa on Saturday night.

Seattle will play its sixth game in 10 nights, its third game in four nights and the tail-end of back-to-backs. It’s also the Kraken’s fifth straight on the road. Furthermore, this has been an exhilarating trip thus far for a team that plays in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal just once a year. Playing in Ottawa doesn’t have the same history as playing in Toronto and Montreal but playing in Ottawa on Saturday night’s Hockey Night in Canada is a very big deal. Additionally, the Kraken will play in Boston next on Thursday so this game is sandwiched between those aforementioned three games and Thursday’s game in Boston. If the Kraken are going to falter during this trip or bring their ”C” game, this is the game it’ll happen in. In the unlikely event that the Kraken are sharp, they’re still in a very difficult spot against a very good team.

Back to Buffalo for a second, who were just plain flat last night and we can understand why. On Saturday night, Buffalo and Minnesota played one of the most thrilling games of the season thus far. Buffalo had a 4-2 lead at one point until Minnesota scored three unanswered goals to take a lead. With the net empty and an extra attacker on the ice, the Sabres tied the score with under 40 seconds remaining and then finished the Wild off in OT. It was a night to remember for the Sabres and their fans. It was also Buffalo’s eight win in their previous nine games. It is virtually impossible to maintain that high intensity for an entire season so last night’s loss had to have humbled the Sabres. That figures to work to our advantage here.

Buffalo is becoming an elite team very quickly. They have an outstanding young goalie in Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who was given the night off last night in favor of 40-year-old Craig Anderson. Luukkonen will be back between the pipes here and there is almost a zero percent chance that the Sabres are flat again. Great spot, reduced price.
