Minnesota -1½ +132 over St. Louis
7:07 PM EST. Minnesota went into Buffalo last night, and rallied back from a 4-3 deficit to take a 5-4 lead before a late Buffalo goal with an extra attacker tied it to send the game to OT, where Buffalo would finish off the Wild. Minnesota will now go back-to-back after scoring five goals in three straight games. The Wild have scored four goals or more in every win they have posted since December 12 and there have been a lot of them. Elite and loaded on offense and defense, Minnesota will now face one of its biggest rivals. The Blue Notes are ill-equipped to face what’s awaiting for them.
St. Louis beat Toronto and New Jersey before going into Montreal last night and losing to a team with five rookie defensemen and that had not won a game in regulation since December 6th. The Blue Notes will now play their fourth game in six nights, third game in four nights and tail-end of back-to-backs. They’ll also play the final game of a four-game road trip so they have had to travel each time. On their best day, the Blues are beatable. They are still without two key pieces in Vladimir Tarasenko and center Ryan O'Reilly. The Blue Notes are a mess. Why, we are not sure because they have great talent but the parts are vastly superior to the sum. Perhaps it’s because they have a former goon as a coach.
Craig Berube was promoted from assistant coach to head coach when Mike Yeo was fired on November 19, 2018. The Blues were dead last at that point and then Berube got lucky when Jordan Binnington arrived and got hot as a firecracker. Previously, Berube didn’t last long as a coach for Philadelphia (less than two years) and ended up back coaching in the minors. We’re guessing that the Blues’ brass is being loyal to Berube because they caught fire when he “guided” them to their only Cup win but it was a case of being in the right place at the right time.
In any case, whatever Berube is doing is not working. The Blues are sloppy, and disengaged more often than not and tonight they are truly in a horrible spot while facing one of the most potent and dangerous lineups in the league. Minnesota is a beast that never quits. That’s bad, bad news for the Blues.
