N.Y. Rangers +111 over Carolina

7:07 PM EST. OT included. When we see the Rangers are an underdog, our interest in them perks up immediately. Tonight, the Rags host the mighty Carolina Hurricanes, who are no joke. The ‘Canes sit atop the Metropolitan Division, and they are riding an 11 game winning streak. We’re not going to take anything away from Carolina, but we will point out that even with all of their quality, asking them to be the favorite at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers in top form is incorrect.

The problem the Hurricanes have is not unique, as their goaltending is unstable. In their last game, the ‘Canes were in much tougher than they should have been in New Jersey because Antti Raanta was brutal in that 5-4 shootout win. We acknowledge that Raanta shut out the Panthers and Blackhawks in back to back starts, but a closer look shows a weak 19 shot effort from Florida, while the Blackhawks are the Blackhawks. For some perspective, the ‘Canes were a -460 favorite against the ‘Hawks. Those flawless performances we're the exception not the rule. We’ll take our chances with the superior Igor Shesterkin and his Rangers taking back a price at home.
