Buffalo +144 over Washington
7:07 PM EST. OT Included. Regular readers of this space are surely aware that the Sabres have been on our radar for weeks, thus, we’re not about to bail just because they dropped a game in Ottawa last time out. That loss was truly a 50/50 proposition, as just about everything in that game from shots, to time of possession in the offensive end during five-on-five play and to scoring chances. That loss snapped an impressive six-game winning streak for the Sabres that included wins in Boston and Colorado and Las Vegas among others. This game in Washington is very winnable.
The Capitals are coming off a 9-2 win over Montreal. Very impressive on the scoresheet but Washington was significantly outplayed for the first half of that game but everything went in on Montreal’s putrid goaltending. When Washington buried goal number 5, it took the wind out of Montreal’s sail. The Caps would wind up scoring 9 goals on 34 shots and 5 goals on their 21 shots. Combine that resonating final score, with Washington being 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and there you have it, an inflated price over a dangerous enemy.
The Caps are expected to get T.J. Oshie back in the lineup tonight. Dude hasn’t played since December 17 and has just 22 appearances under his belt this season. Those have been relatively unsuccessful appearances, too, with Oshie registering just two points in the 11 games prior to the injury. Don’t get us wrong, as the Caps are playing well and they’re tough to beat but Buffalo is just as good and just as tough to beat. Price on the Caps here is inflated due to some serious recency bias while Buffalo is not getting the same respect.
