Arizona -½ +277 over Colorado
9:08 PM EST. Regulation only. First off, Arizona has been a pesky underdog all year. The Coyotes have endured the toughest schedule this league has ever seen with 14 straight road games and yet here they are just five games under .500. In terms of motivation, it’s unreasonable to trust Colorado will be even remotely as motivated to play in Arizona as Arizona will be to play the champs so let’s focus on that.
Colorado is missing so many key players. Valeri Nichushkin may not even play here, as he missed Friday’s game in Nashville with a lower body issue and is questionable for this one. The Avs are desperate for healthy bodies and they’re also desperate to find some scoring. The Avs recently went 107 minutes, 48 seconds without a goal. Just before the break, they were tooth and nails to score twice on Montreal. We absolutely love that the Avs have won four in a row and six of seven because it looks great on paper and it doesn’t create a sense of urgency.
Truth be told, four of those six wins were in OT. The other two victories were against Nashville and Philadelphia, the latter by one goal. The Avs could just as easily be on a big losing streak but they’ve gotten the OT breaks. Now after the Christmas break, they’ll make this inconvenient trip to Arizona for one lousy game before returning home for three games against Los Angeles, Toronto and Vegas. We have to question what is going to motivate the champions here to bring their A game to Arizona. When you combine the vulnerable spot the Avs are in with the price being offered on the ‘Yotes, we aren't going to pass it up.
