Edmonton +132 over Calgary
9:08 PM EST. OT included. The Oilers are one of those teams you can bet on just about anytime they are an underdog. While we're on that subject, the Flames fit that description, too. Many teams in the NHL fall into this category. They are great underdogs and very risky favorites.
The Flames are favored in this range because they are coming off a West Coast road trip where they picked up points in all four games, winning three in regulation. It all sounds good on the post-game show, but in reality, Calgary beat up the Sharks (twice) and Anaheim, while also dropping an overtime game to L.A., 4-3. The Flames are now just one point up on the Oilers for the final Wild Card spot, but there is much hockey left to play. Prior to their modest run of success, Calgary lost five straight with their December 10 loss to Toronto being the only one against a team with a winning record (St. Louis, Vancouver, Montreal, and Columbus being the others).
The Oilers have been taking heat from the locals and the media, as they’ve dropped four of their last five, including a 5-2 decision to Vancouver on Friday night. The Oilers were a -211 favorite that night. They were also favored in losses to Nashville, Anaheim and St. Louis. The only win the Oilers have racked up recently was a 6-3 final in Dallas where Edmonton was the pooch. Well, the Oilers are back to being the underdog tonight, which makes them worthy of a wager. A team that features two of the five best players in the world is not going to stay cold forever but more importantly, Edmonton as a poocxh offers up value.
