New Jersey +121 over Colorado

7:05 PM EST. Overtime included. Records can be very deceiving, which is why we have our sights set on the Devils again tonight. At 4-3, New Jersey is straddling the fine line between winning and losing, but they are not getting the results that come with playing damn good hockey. The Devils get their chances every night. They are the number two ranked puck possession team behind only Carolina, who is legit as hell and a juggernaut when it comes to the analytics. That is to say, New Jersey is in very good company.

We’ve discussed PDO, or “puck luck” in the past, but for a refresher, it’s a stat that combines save percentage and shooting percentage, which are both “luck-driven” statistics to determine whether or not a team is getting the bounces. Of the 32 teams in this league, the Devils rank dead last in “puck luck.” We don’t know if those chances they are creating will start going in tonight, but we trust that a change to the good is coming in New Jersey’s fortunes.

You can shelf the Avalanche here, as they need no introduction. They are the Stanley Cup champions and with that, there is a premium to pay to back them. However, after cashing in that championship run, the Avs are playing like they are still celebrating at the parade. In their last three games, the Avs have been outshot badly twice, and they went shot for shot in a shoot-out win over the Rangers on Tuesday night. That was their second game of this four-game East Coast swing that wraps up tomorrow on Long Island. We're not relenting on the underappreciated and underpriced Devils.
