Game 5

Carolina/New York over 5½ goals +118

7:05 PM EST. Perhaps we are beating a dead horse, but we’re going to come right back on the over here in Game 5 after ripping up our tickets in both Game 3 and Game 4. Game 4 was particularly painful, as the Hurricanes were down three and did not pull their goalie. Cripes, in the regular season, teams would pull their ‘tenders down three with five minutes to go. You would think that would be a no brainer in the playoffs. Alas, it was not to be. Hurricanes’ coach Keith Primeau stubbornly left his goalie in the crease while the clock ticked down to zero.

The under has hit in all four games of this series despite there being a plethora of shots and scoring chances on both sides. The Hurricanes could only muster two goals in New York, but returning to the great state of North Carolina should serve their scorers well. The ‘Canes have posted sharp home/road splits in these playoffs. Carolina has won all of its six of its home games while losing all five on the road. If one follows that trend, one would figure the Hurricanes will find more success on the score sheet here in Raleigh.

The Rangers did their part in Manhattan by scoring seven goals across two games and enter this Game 5 with all the momentum. It might be tempting to play the Rangers here as the pooch, but we are going to stick with our approach in this series by attacking the over at least one more time. Again, we are not asking for much here. Six goals will cash this ticket and does so at about +115 depending on where you shop.

While we cannot predict if one or both of these goaltenders will continue with their stingy ways, we can predict that these two teams are going to get their chances. In this series, five on five, there have been 79 total High Danger Scoring Chances and just five High Danger Goals scored. The opportunity to cash in on a modest six goals keeps knocking again and again.

Our Pick

Carolina/New York +5 +118 (Risking 2 units - To Win: 2.36)
