NY Rangers/Carolina o5½ +110

7:00 PM EST. We could pretty much copy and paste our write-up from Game 3, where we figured the goals would be on the way, as there are just too many quality offensive players on both sides. Well, 76 shots and four goals later, we were ripping up our tickets. The night had so much potential with three goals being scored before the halfway point.

When things are not going your way, it can feel like you are fighting it game in and game out. We do our best not to get wrapped up in the day to day wins and losses, because it is a long year and there are always peaks and valleys along the way. Through three games of this series, there have been nine goals scored. Four by the Rangers (three last game) and five by Carolina.

A closer look at the splits for the Hurricanes shows that they are playing great at home and not so much on the road. Carolina has played 10 games in these playoffs and are undefeated (6-0) in the Tarheel State and winless in the Northeast (0-4). Those games are split between three games in Boston and one in Manhattan. Does that mean they are due to pop off on the road? No, but like we wrote last game, the goaltenders have been on fire and even if they’re still on fire, pucks have to find the back of the net with all those scoring chances.

In Game 3, in addition to the 76 shots fired, there were 54 total Scoring Chances. 37 from the ‘Canes and 17 from the Rangers. New York did their job, but Carolina could not cash in. Hockey can be a cruel game. If one really wanted to torture themselves, one could look to the High Danger Scoring Chances, a metric that further shows just how off the charts these goalies have been. Carolina posted 17 High Danger Chances For while the Rags posted eight. One has to figure that those opportunities will be there again in Game 4.

We said prior to Game 3 that we’d be right back here in Game 4 if that over bet did not cash. Just know that in the two decades plus that this website has been online, we have not strayed from our principals. Do we assess and evolve? Yes, but the goal and the mantra is always the same. With all that said, we are sticking with it here in the same way we did yesterday, and we’ll do it again tomorrow. Here’s to a good night. All the best.
