Detroit -3½ over San Francisco
8:15 PM ET. San Francisco has fallen apart. The Niners have dropped five of their last six games and are dealing with a laundry list of injuries. The absence of Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Trent Williams has stripped this team of its identity. Even George Kittle, one of the few remaining weapons, is banged up. Kyle Shanahan’s squad was officially eliminated from playoff contention last weekend, and while he’s preaching professionalism, the reality is that this team has nothing left to give.
The Niners are limping to the finish line, figuratively and literally. Brock Purdy has regressed, the offensive line is in shambles, and a once-dominant defense is now a shell of itself. San Francisco is 1-6 ATS in its last seven games, and with morale in the tank, there’s no reason to believe they can keep pace with a motivated Lions team.
On the other side, Detroit is rolling. They’ve won seven straight road games, Jared Goff is playing at an MVP level, and the offense hasn’t missed a beat despite David Montgomery’s absence. Jahmyr Gibbs has emerged as a versatile playmaker, and Amon-Ra St. Brown continues to torch defenses. Goff’s 17 TDs against just one interception in the last six games speak to how well this offense is clicking.
The Lions may technically be able to afford a loss here, but that’s not how Dan Campbell operates. Dude carries a grudge and the Lions haven’t forgotten how the 49ers crushed their Super Bowl dreams last year. Up 24-7 at halftime in the NFC Championship Game, Detroit watched helplessly as San Francisco rallied for an improbable 34-31 win, capped by a facemask-deflected miracle catch. That bitter taste has lingered, and it has fueled the Lions all season. Campbell’s squad will relish the opportunity to bury a floundering 49ers team in prime time.
The market might think Detroit takes its foot off the gas here, but that’s not how the Lions are built. Campbell’s mantra of “biting kneecaps” isn’t just a soundbite—it’s a mindset. Forget the narrative that Detroit has nothing to play for. The Lions can name their number here. Swallow the points.
