Washington +4 over Philadelphia

1:00 PM ET. The Eagles are the darlings of the NFC. At 12-2, riding a 10-game win streak, and staring down the top seed in the conference, Philly has done just about everything right this season, but as the Eagles march into Washington as 3½-point road favorites, it’s hard to ignore the setup for this game. The Commanders, fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot, are catching points at home in a division game after the Eagles played the Steelers last Sunday as if their f**king lives depended on it.

Forget the X’s and O’s, this is a textbook "trap" game for Philadelphia. The Eagles have already punched their ticket to the playoffs and are on the verge of clinching the NFC East, but with bigger goals on the horizon—namely securing the top seed in the NFC—this isn’t a do-or-die scenario for them. Yes, it’s a division game, but that does not mean the Eagles are not in for a letdown after throwing the kitchen sink at the Steelers in Week 15.

Washington is no pushover, and their desperation makes them an even tougher out here. Sitting at 9-5 and clinging to their playoff hopes, the Commanders are fully aware of the stakes. This is essentially their postseason, and that urgency should translate into a gritty, inspired effort. Further lighting a fire under their asses could be the near collapse in New Orleans last Sunday in which the ‘Manders blew a big lead and needed to stop a 2-point convert just to close that win out over a depleted Saints side.

In their earlier matchup this season, Washington hung tough in Philadelphia, trailing by just two points entering the fourth quarter before falling 26-18. That game was closer than the final score suggests, as a failed fourth-down gamble in field-goal range shifted momentum in the Eagles’ favor. Now, with home-field advantage and the addition of Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who is a total game-changer.

Philadelphia may be a great team and perhaps a Super Bowl run is in their future, but this is a terrible spot for them. They’re walking into a game they don’t need against a desperate, and capable team that just about saw its season take a dark turn. Don’t be surprised if the Commanders not only cover but pull off the outright upset.
