Chicago +6½ +100 over Minnesota

8:00 PM ET. Let’s not sugarcoat it—this season has been rough for the Bears. A 4-9 record, a fired head coach, and a defense that has been shredded weekly are not exactly selling points, but it’s in situations like this, when a team’s stock is at rock bottom, that we find tremendous value.

The Bears’ struggles have been well-documented, but this is a team with nothing to lose and an interim coach looking to make his mark. That desperation creates a dangerous opponent. Caleb Williams, despite being stuck on a team in turmoil, has played clean football, extending his streak of passes without an interception to 233. He’s shown he can handle pressure, and his mobility offers a wrinkle Minnesota’s defense will have to account for. The Vikings’ pass defense thrives against stationary quarterbacks, but Williams is anything but.

Let’s also factor in motivation. Chicago was humiliated last week against San Francisco, and teams often respond in their next outing. Interim head coaches have a way of getting one inspired performance out of their team, and this is a perfect spot for that. Thomas Brown knows he’s auditioning for a long-term job, and the players know their futures are on the line. This isn’t a team ready to roll over—it’s a team playing for their livelihoods.

Sam Darnold’s resurgence is one of the feel-good stories of the season, but let’s not confuse the Vikings with an elite team. Yes, they’ve won six straight, but during that stretch, they’ve benefited from turnovers, favorable matchups, and opponents failing to finish. Their schedule has been forgiving, and their 11-2 record hides a team that’s far from flawless. The Vikings have not beaten a team with a winning record since Week 4 when they knocked off the Packers 31-29. Their six straight wins came over the Falcons, Cardinals, Bears (in OT), Titans, Jaguars, and Colts.

Finally, let’s not forget that the Vikings blew a double-digit lead against these Bears in their first meeting (they almost did the same against the Packers, too). They’ve been living on the edge, and their inability to put teams away is a problem. Their defense is opportunistic, but when the turnovers don’t come, they’re vulnerable. Chicago will fight tooth and nail in this divisional showdown, and don’t be surprised if they pull off the upset.
