New England +6 -102 over Arizona
4:25 PM ET. New England’s record is ugly, but they’ve been more competitive than their 3-10 mark suggests. They’ve been in one-score games with playoff-caliber teams like Indianapolis and Miami, and they’ve done it with a rookie QB learning on the fly. Drake Maye has flashed promise, completing 67.2% of his passes with 11 TDs in nine games. Mistakes are part of the package with young signal-callers, but Maye’s poise in high-pressure situations gives the Patriots a shot to hang around here. Furthermore, the Patriots are playing loose with nothing to lose, which makes them a dangerous out for any team with fleeting playoff hopes.
The Cardinals started the year as a playoff hopeful and are now spiraling with their postseason dreams hanging by a thread. They’ve dropped three straight games, including a disastrous home effort last week against Seattle, where they allowed 176 rushing yards and only converted 4-of-12 third downs. Arizona’s defense has been porous, ranking near the bottom of the league in points allowed (25.6 per game). Those struggles were obviously highlighted by last week’s debacle against Seattle.
The Cardinals’ offense, meanwhile, has hit a wall. Kyler Murray has thrown five interceptions over his last three games, and his chemistry with rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. still feels disjointed. Arizona’s reliance on TE Trey McBride is becoming predictable and their passing game is about as stale as a three-week-old Big Mac.
The Cardinals have more on the line here than New England, but urgency doesn’t guarantee results. In fact, it creates a “must-win” narrative that the media and market eat up like a fat kid does cake. Arizona’s recent form suggests they’re struggling in all phases, and a touchdown tag is bloated for a team that hasn’t won in nearly a month. Market perception is propping up the Cardinals as they’re technically still in the playoff hunt, but in today’s NFL where that cut line is lower than ever, that means very little, however, it’s enough to give the Cards some shine in an unsuspecting market.
