Houston +141 over Green Bay
1:00 PM EST. The Packers are quickly rising up the power rankings, as is their standing in the market. Green Bay is one of those blue blood teams that is very popular in the market, and when they are good, which is often, they are overexposed and overvalued. The Packers are 4-2 both Straight Up and Against the Spread (ATS), with their losses in both departments coming to the Eagles in Brazil in Week 1 and Week 4 vs. the Vikings. On the surface, both of those losses are not “bad” ones, but it’s worth noting the Vikes were up 28-0 before shutting down for the day and allowing the Packers to make it 31-29 with 56 seconds to go. That final score flatters Green Bay and also inflated Jordan Love’s numbers, which are being highly touted this week.
The Texans are 5-1 after pounding on the Patriots last Sunday, but that win and cover brought their ATS record to a modest 2-3-1. Houston was the surprise team of last season, and they did have a ton of hype surrounding them coming into this season, but the market has cooled on them after the first third of the season. That could be partly due to injuries, which have hit the Texans hard this season, but they are getting healthier, even if they are still without star WR Nico Collins. RB Joe Mixon was back in the mix last week versus New England, where he rushed for 102 yards, scoring one TD while catching another. The man throwing those TDs, C.J. Stroud, now has 10 passing majors to four interceptions.
These are two up-and-coming teams, but at this moment, it is the Packers that are heating up in the market, and because of that, their prices are going up. The Packers were a -5½-point choice over the Cardinals last week and easily covered that game, but everything went right for them in that contest, where they were up 24-0 before you could get your popcorn. The Texans won a blowout too, but it was against the lowly Patriots, which does not register in the market. Houston also opened at a dog-friendly number of +2½, which has us leaning their way, as the market has started to drive that number up and it will probably be a field goal or more by kickoff.
