L.A. Rams +3 over Green Bay
4:25 PM EST. The Rams are a team that surprised the market last season by making a run to the playoffs despite a laundry list of injuries that should have left them picking in the top 10 instead of playing on Wild Card Weekend. Before the season, the Rams were on many “sleeper” lists to make the playoffs again in 2024, but the injury bug has hit them hard once again. This time, Los Angeles has not been able to overcome those hits. The most significant names on the IR are from the WR group, as both Cooper Kupp and last year’s standout rookie Puka Nacua are expected to be out of the lineup this week. Nacua could be out until Week 9, while Kupp is week-to-week, and he didn’t practice with his team in advance of this contest.
The Rams are also notably banged up on the offensive line, but like the injuries to their WRs, that is not privileged information, and we can assure you that they have been factored into the line, as well as any potential market reaction. The Rams are just 1-3 after losing on the road to the Bears last week, and their only win came on a last-second field goal to beat the 49ers in Week 3. The Rams began the year 0-2 after losing a heartbreaker in overtime in Detroit in Week 1 before getting waffled by the Cardinals in the desert in Week 2, 41-10.
The Packers are a team whose stock is on the rise despite a Week 4 setback to the Vikings. However, it’s the way Green Bay finished that game, outscoring Minnesota 29-3 after going down 28-0, that is getting all the attention. Packers QB Jordan Love, who returned after suffering a knee injury in Week 1, was rusty in the first half but would end up posting Madden-like video game numbers, throwing for 389 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. Love notably wore a Brett Favre jersey before that game after the Ol’ Gunslinger announced his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis, and #10 played a very Favre-like game, full of beautiful plays mixed with some real head-scratchers.
Green Bay is 2-2, but as mentioned, they have not lost any luster this week because they made a game of it on Sunday. However, their stock might be just a touch too high here after some real cracks were shown versus the Vikings. Love did not look right in that game despite the big numbers, and we just don’t know how his knee is going to hold up, as that was supposed to be a 4-6 week injury, but he missed just two games. The Packers might be the “next big thing” in the NFC, but they aren’t there yet, and they aren’t ready to be spotting road points in a game that looks to be a 50/50 proposition.
