New Orleans +6 over Dallas

1:00 PM EST. The Saints are finding out the hard way that not much respect comes from a blowout win over the Carolina Panthers, as they are taking back a touchdown on the road in Dallas here in Week 2. That significant pile of points has more to do with the Cowboys than it does with the Saints, and while we are not high on New Orleans, it doesn’t matter what we “think” or “feel.” When you hear or read what somebody “thinks” about a game or a wager, take that information with a grain of salt.

The Cowboys were a team that was taking some heat for how they handled their business off the field, but after a blowout win on the road in Cleveland, the Boys are back in town, and the Dallas bandwagon is loading up. Speaking of loading up, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott inked a contract extension just prior to that 33-17 win, with $231 million of that deal being guaranteed. We’re never going to tell someone what to do with their money, but considering just how much Jerry Jones ended up paying for both WR CeeDee Lamb and Prescott, why drag out the process? Would it not have been easier to just sign these guys and save the headaches and bad press? WTF, Jerry?

The Cowboys were a +2½-point underdog in Cleveland in Week 1, which looks like a really bad number now, but are the ‘Boys ready to be spotting a touchdown just a week later? That’s a significant swing that, like Dak’s contract, might be tough to outperform. It’s not as if the Cowboys dominated the Browns on Sunday, as it was Cleveland’s blunders that dictated the day, with Deshaun Watson throwing two interceptions and taking six sacks. Newly minted $200-million man, Prescott, went just 19-for-32 passing for 179 yards and a touchdown. Considering there’s $400 million in guaranteed money between them, the QB play in Cleveland last week was pretty weak. As for the rest of the box score, the ‘Boys and Browns both had just 15 first downs, were pretty comparable in yards, and only one minute separated them in time of possession.

The Cowboys are always going to be “America’s Team,” and they are always going to be a team that heats up in the market very quickly. They are a blue-blood franchise that has seen an overreaction to their Week 1 result and now there is a premium to be paid on them. Win, lose, or draw, the Cowboys are spotting inflated points based on one game and it wasn’t even a great one.
