Cincinnati +6½ over Kansas City

4:25 PM EST. The Chiefs kicked off the 2024 season in dramatic fashion last Thursday night against Baltimore, winning 27-20 while covering the -2½-point spread. The results of such a high-profile prime-time game are going to resonate, as all the eyes of the football world were on that game, as were the bets made in the market. Every talking head and pick seller had a play or a hot take on that game, and it was bet up, down, and every which way in between. They say football is a game of inches, but last Thursday night, millions of dollars in the market swung on just a few centimeters, as both spread bets and some total wagers, depending on what number was played, were affected by that touchdown being overturned. We’ll never know what the outcome of the potential game-winning play would have been, but the Chiefs were fortunate to not only win that game but cover as well. The Ravens had more first downs, more yards of offense, and won the time of possession by over 7:30 minutes.

The Bengals were the biggest flops in Week 1 because they were the biggest favorite on the board, and they lost outright to a New England team that was pegged to win the fewest games in the NFL this season. There’s no sugarcoating that effort from Cincinnati, as they destroyed survivor pool dreams for the masses and ruined every teaser and ticket they were on. Failing to score against a team that is supposed to be picking #1 overall in April for nearly three quarters is a bad look, but that poor performance by the Bengals has caused an overreaction in the media and the market, which is only exacerbated by the fact they are playing the mighty Chiefs in Kansas City. Win, lose, or draw, the Bengals are taking back inflated points in this spot.
