Oakland -6½ over Dallas

8:00 PM EST. Dallas was featured in prime time last week, and they nearly pulled off a win and cover before allowing the Rams to march down the field and score the game-winning touchdown with just four seconds to play to steal the victory, 13-12. It’s worth noting the Cowboys were a -5½-point favorite at close in that game, and now they are taking back +6½-points here in Las Vegas.

On the surface, that number stands out like a sore thumb, but when we see a spread this significant in a preseason game, it’s worth looking a little closer. In this case, the Raiders' coach Antonio Pearce is going to let both Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell duke it out with the starting pivot position on the line. We can appreciate that those two names are not the sexiest to post on the marquee, but both have started and won games in this league, which is not insignificant. Pearce also appears eager to set the tone early for his team in his first full year as the head coach of the Raiders, while Mike McCarthy is a coach who cares little for preseason play.

Last week, the Cowboys' defense made Rams QB Sam Bennet look competent at times, and despite picking him off four times and winning the turnover battle 4-0, Dallas still lost. If you are +4 in turnovers, even in an exhibition game, you are supposed to win that game. Trey Lance got most of the reps in that game for the ‘Boys, throwing for 188 on 25/41 passing for no touchdowns and no interceptions. With this game once again being in prime time, it’s going to draw more eyes than the rest of today’s slate, so we are not going to ignore what the oddsmakers are telling us. Swallow the points.
