Chicago +128 over Las Vegas
1:00 PM EST. The Raiders are 3-3, but they might be the worst .500 team in the history of football. That’s hyperbole, of course, but make no mistake, Vegas is bad. Real bad. The Raiders have played a middling schedule that has seen them rack up wins over weak teams in Denver, Green Bay, and New England. Those three once-proud franchises are a combined 4-13 so far this season. As for its losses, Vegas got whacked by Buffalo (38-10), dropped a 23-18 decision to the Steelers as a -3-point favorite, and the Chargers.
We see value in looking down the road to see what a team has coming up, and for the Raiders, they play in Detroit on Monday Night Football next week. You don’t think these guys are hyped to strut their stuff again, as they did in their MNF win over the Packers in Week 5? We’ll note that the Raiders lost before playing Green Bay, but we doubt they were looking ahead to that game while playing the hated Chargers. However, the Bears are a nothing team, with a terrible record. Bring on the ESPN cameras.
The Bears were supposed to be better than their last-place showing from a year ago, a lot better. Through six weeks, Chicago is struggling near the bottom of the standings with only winless Carolina edging out the Bears and four other clubs for the worst record in professional football. While looking ahead for the Bears, we acknowledge they too have a prime-time game next week in L.A. against the Chargers, but when one is 1-5 and playing in front of a passionate and heated fan base, one is in no position to look ahead. This game is a classic “buy low, sell high” situation, as we’ve seen the Raiders go from a -3-point favorite versus New England in Week 6, and a -2-point favorite v the Packers in Week 5 to now spotting nearly a touchdown on the road to the Bears. Those games against the Pack and Pats were in Vegas, and the Raiders covered, but now they are laying inflated points on the road to a team that is better than its record shows. We faded the Raiders last week and we ripped up that ticket on one of the luckiest covers you’ll see this season. Hell yeah, we’re coming right back to fade Vegas again.
