Atlanta +4½ -108 over Pittsburgh

7:30 PM EST. The Steelers are coming off a preseason win over Buffalo last week, where Pittsburgh was heavily faded because of the widespread information that the Bills would give significant time to starting QB Josh Allen and other star players. That game last week opened with the Steelers as favorites at home, but it closed with Pittsburgh as the underdogs.

As with most of these preseason games, a breakdown of X's and O's is a fool's errand. However, there is a perception in the market based on reports that the Steelers are going to play their starters until head coach Mike Tomlin sees "a level of satisfaction on both sides of the ball" that suits him. That could be a few possessions or it could be a half, but trying to predict what a coach like Tomlin is going to do would be nearly impossible. That doesn't mean we can't use the overreaction to his playing his first-string players to our advantage. If last week was any reference (it's not, really), Pickett threw four passes and then sat on the bench.

While the discussion of the Falcons as an under-the-radar team that has some really nice pieces can be had another day, today it's worth noting the Dirty Birds are taking back an inflated price on their home field in the final game before the regular season. If it's expected to be a down year in Atlanta, it's not unreasonable to suggest the Falcons might have a little extra jump in their step to get the ball rolling right before Week 1, and maybe generate a little hometown hype.

A true and honest effort does not guarantee victory, but it does give one an opportunity to have as strong a chance as possible to be successful, especially if the other side is just playing out the string late in a Week 3 exhibition. Of course, the Dirty Birds can win a preseason game at home, but the prudent play is to take back the inflated points being offered.
