7:05 PM EST. There is only one game on the NFL exhibition slate tonight, but it looks like it could be a potentially profitable situation, so we are going to dive right in, as there is a storm brewing in Southern California that has nothing to do with the Super Chargers.

For the first time in nearly 90 years, a tropical storm could hit the Southern California coast and might impact the game, as rains could make their way to SoFi Stadium. In the past, there has been some inclement weather at SoFi that has caused lightning delays, as well as some interior flooding that has caused slip and fall injuries.

Despite the severe weather warnings, Uncle Roger and company have no intention of rescheduling or canceling this game even though there were other professional sports events that have already been rescheduled. MLB shuffled several games, as did Major League Soccer, but the NFL? Hell, no, they have a Sunday Night Football game to air, and Uncle Roger gets paid handsomely for those, so the show must go on.

As for the game itself, we find it very telling that the Saints, who are considered an inferior team, are favored by a significant margin on the road. It’s not just 1, or 2, or even a 3-point spread, but -3½, with that always tempting “hook” hanging on that field goal. Now, we all know this is just a preseason game and that what is going to go on between the goal lines has little to do with the reputations of both sides, but that doesn’t necessarily resonate in a market that is NFL-mad and that cannot wait to get a bet down.

The Chargers taking back better than a field goal here is very, very, very tempting. In fact, one could call it “low hanging” fruit. You know how that old saying goes. Don’t bite. Instead, swallow the points.
