Carolina -6½ over Buffalo

7:00 PM EST. The number dictates the play here, as this price on the Panthers must stand out like a sore thumb. We know how the Bills have handled the preseason in the Sean McDermott era. They’ve won 11 straight, including a 42-15 downing of Denver last Saturday, in which McDermott still had his hands on his knees, screaming into his headset late in the fourth quarter. If there is a more intense dude out there, we don’t know who it is. The point spread in that game against the Broncos also looked large, which was a red flag. Most of these games are between 1-3-points, when we get into this range, one has to take notice.

The Bills are going to sit all of their starters tonight, which doesn't mean they won’t play hard, but they are not throwing the kitchen sink at the Panthers as they did the Broncos last week. The Bills have big goals this season and aren’t going to risk anything after getting their stars through the first two games. For Buffalo, it's the Super Bowl or bust.

The Panthers are going to play newly minted starting quarterback Baker Mayfield and the rest of the starters tonight. Mayfield is expected to play into the second quarter with Sam Darnold and PJ Walker mopping up when he’s done. With the Panthers failing to score an offensive touchdown last week, one would expect them to try and get as many quality offensive reps in tonight as possible. That should be enough to cover this number.
