Texas enters this matchup fresh off a dominant win against Clemson, a game in which the Longhorns flexed their considerable muscle. That performance, coupled with their newfound status as the betting favorite to win the national championship, has inflated their stock to precarious levels. Despite being priced identically to their opening-round matchup, Texas now carries the weight of heightened expectations, making them ripe for a letdown.

Arizona State is no pushover, despite the market's dismissal. Running back Cam Skattebo has the physicality and relentlessness to challenge a vaunted Texas run defense. The Sun Devils have knocked off four ranked opponents this season, matching the Longhorns' total, and do so with a bad-attitude, nothing-to-lose mentality. They weren’t supposed to be here, which makes them dangerous. Texas, conversely, faces the burden of expectation and distractions, with rumors swirling about quarterback Quinn Ewers’ potential transfer.

The line itself tells a story. Texas barely covered this same number against Clemson, and yet the oddsmakers have hung it again, knowing full well the public will pile on the Longhorns.
