Georgia Southern -4 over Sam Houston State

7:00 PM ET. The market loves a good narrative, and Sam Houston State’s Cinderella season is a storybook in the making. After going 3-9 last year, the Bearkats are 9-3 and playing in their first-ever bowl game. However, the gloss of this magical season has blinded the public to what’s really happening behind the scenes.

Sam Houston is a team in disarray. Head Coach K.C. Keeler jumped ship for Temple, taking with him any semblance of stability. The transfer portal has gutted this roster, with the Bearkats losing their top two running backs, leading wide receiver, and several defensive starters. What remains is a shell of the team that earned this bowl berth, one seemingly uninterested in the game at hand.

On the other side, Georgia Southern is all-in. After three consecutive losing seasons, the Eagles have turned a corner under Clay Helton and are hungry to make a statement. Unlike Sam Houston, Georgia Southern has its core intact and will be motivated to erase the sting of back-to-back bowl losses.

The Eagles’ resume speaks volumes. They’ve beaten the likes of Marshall (the Conference USA champs) and James Madison, and they pushed Boise State to the brink in their opener. Meanwhile, Sam Houston limps into this game with a rudderless ship and a depleted roster. This mismatch, coupled with the reduced price, makes Georgia Southern a bargain. Blowouts don’t get much easier to see coming than this one.
